Hey everyone! We have just arrived in Portland, OR for the AERO Conference! We will be blogging during our entire trip and hope to share with you what we've learned and discovered. Thanks!

After our flight, we went to visit Summa Institute, a family school in Portland. Their philosophy is based upon a triangle of educators, students, and parents. The school is designed for elementary and middle school students. It's based upon the idea of developmental stages in children and building trusting relationships. Many of their ideas seem to come from Montessori and Piaget. Learning is seen as an evolving process, not something that is planned out ahead of time and is always the same. We thought that this model was very interesting and helpful to learn about.
